A stormy phenomenon is expected in the north-eastern quarter of France between the end of the day and the beginning of the evening this Wednesday. Météo-France issued a bulletin announcing orange vigilance for thunderstorms in 14 departments.

The departments in question are: Paris, Seine-Saint-Denis, Hauts-de-Seine, Val-de-Marne, Yvelines, Val-d’Oise, Essonne, Seine-et-Marne, the Somme, the Oise, the Aisne, the Marne, the Aube and the Yonne.

These storms could cause significant local damage, including wind gusts of up to 80 km/h and hail. For Thursday May 2, four additional departments should be placed on orange alert for the same storm phenomena: Somme, Oise, Aisne and Marne.

Furthermore, May 1 is expected to be a rainy day in much of the country. The precipitation will extend from Provence to Languedoc, the Massif Central and the Center, then to Normandy. In the border Alps, precipitation will be sustained with a rain-snow limit around 2,200 meters. The sky will be cloudy in general, but brighter in the Northeast. Temperatures will vary between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius for minimums, and between 13 and 27 degrees Celsius for maximums.

According to weather forecasts, the entire first week of May will experience disruptions. Improvements will begin to be seen from the start of the second week. While rain will still be possible in the central part of the country, other parts will enjoy dry and sunny weather. Moreover, the mercury should rise and exceed the threshold of 20 degrees in the vast majority of regions.

As the days go by, precipitation will become even rarer. Only a few rainy episodes in the southeast and southwest will be possible. Elsewhere, the weather will be calm and sunny with temperatures closer to seasonal norms, particularly in the southern half. Up to 26 degrees are already forecast for Sunday May 12.

For the third week of May, with the approach of the anticyclone, the weather will be even drier. However, some stormy spells will still be possible, particularly in the south-west of France. As for temperatures, values will be mild in the majority of regions.

The weather should get milder at the end of May

Looking ahead to the last week of May, seasonal weather would definitely be in place. However, some wetter periods will be possible, particularly in the southwest and the northeast, where thunderstorms will be expected. Regarding temperatures, a few cool periods will be possible, but overall, the mercury will be in line with seasonal norms, even above in the south.
