Towards food autonomy thanks to better support for corn producers
Descriptive text here

Corn producers, under the supervision of Pape Banda Dièye, president of the national college and mayor of Tamba, express their desire to contribute to the food sovereignty of . They advocate for better support in the provision of quality seeds and effective marketing of cereals, seeing these aspects as crucial to overcoming current challenges.

In the particular context of eastern Senegal, an area endowed with water resources and fertile land, corn producers estimate that they can alone achieve the 350,000 tonnes of cereal production projected by the authorities. This ambition is supported by the recent positive results despite a rainfall deficit, delivered by the Regional Director of Rural Development (Drdr), revealing the dominance of the corn sector with 144,000 tonnes produced the previous year.

Despite phytosanitary challenges and limited equipment, producers remain optimistic. The Drdr, identified only by the name of Mr. Bâ, calls for an increase in infrastructure and availability of inputs. He also emphasizes the need to improve the seed distribution network to compensate for low collection rates and meet the needs of producers spread across the region.
