Jean-Claude Van Damme: this film he directed and which you may never see! – Cinema News

You may know that Jean-Claude Van Damme directed a film, “Le Grand Tournoi”, released in theaters in 1996. But did you know that he had completed another one which has remained in the back of drawers for more than fifteen years ?

If you are a fan of Jean-Claude van Damme, you probably know that he directed Le Grand Tournoi, a martial arts film released in theaters in 1996 in which he played opposite James Bond Roger Moore, no less That ! But did you know that JCVD shot another feature film in 2008 that it never managed to show to the general public?

The film that Van Damme (one of whose very muscular opus may have made Ryan Gosling a star) made more than fifteen years ago and which never saw the light of day is The Eagle Path . The story of Frenchy, who falls in love with a prostitute in Thailand, and who seeks to free her from the influence of her pimp.

Jean Claude Van Damme filmed The Eagle Path in Thailand in July 2008, in Bangkok and Pattaya. The Belgian was obviously very keen on this project with a budget of 5 million dollars, since in addition to being the director and the main actor, he also serves as screenwriter and producer.

Described by the bodybuilder star as a cross between The Footprint of Death, in which he starred in 2004, and the classic Casablanca directed by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, The Eagle Path was presented in 2010 at the Cannes Film Festival with the aim of finding a distributor. Unfortunately for Van Damme, the feature film, of which you can discover the trailer below, does not appeal and does not find any takers…

JCVD, who believes as hard as iron The Eagle Path, shot new scenes in Bulgaria two years later, convinced that the film had potential, but nothing happened. Presented to professionals in Shanghai in 2014, then again at Cannes in 2018, this work that no one has probably had the leisure to view has never convinced.

A family matter…

We will note to conclude that the invisible The Eagle Path is a family affair: Jean Claude Van Damme directs two of his children, Kristopher Van Varenberg and Bianca Bree, while one of the producers, Eugene Van Varenberg, is none other than his father! No doubt the reason why JCVD has been desperately trying to bring this project to the screen for more than fifteen years…
