The judgment was rendered this Tuesday: the former president of the departmental council Daniel Zaïndani was sentenced for embezzlement of public funds to one year in prison, a fine of 25,000 euros and three years of deprivation of civil rights. He risks losing his mandate if he does not appeal.

The deliberations were delivered this Tuesday, April 30 concerning the trial of the former president of the departmental council Daniel Zaïdani. He was sentenced to one year in prison, a fine of 25,000 euros and three years of deprivation of civil rights for embezzlement of public funds during his mandate. The director of the cultural service at the time, Alain Kamal Martial Henry, and his former chief of staff, Alhamidi Aboubacar were released.

Daniel Zaïdani risks losing his mandate as departmental advisor to Pamandzi if he does not appeal the decision. At the beginning of the month, he mentioned “of the political adversaries who initiated the denunciations” and warned that “any either the judges’ decision, no one will silence me in Mayotte.

The elected official was on trial for facts that occurred in 2012, when he chaired the departmental council. He was accused to have financed from the department’s budget a concert by the group Sexion d’Assaut in Diego Suarez, in Madagascar and to have purchased two vehicles for 70,700 euros without going through calls for tender. He was also tried for organizing a Foutari at his home financed to the tune of 5,000 euros by the department. The prosecution had requested a one-year suspended prison sentence, a 40,000 euro fine and deprivation of civil rights for five years.
