An apartment fire broke out on the evening of Sunday, April 28, in an apartment in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The events took place around 9 p.m., in rue Saint-Charles, BFM Paris Île-de-France learned from a Source close to the matter.

When the fire broke out, a smoke detector went off, alerting the apartment’s neighbors.

The occupant of the apartment died

According to our information, the fire started from the living room of an apartment located on the third floor out of five. A sofa then caught fire, releasing heavy smoke which poisoned the person residing in the home.

The fire did not spread beyond this room, it was contained by the firefighters.

The person living in the apartment, a 41-year-old man, was found by emergency services in cardio-respiratory arrest in his bedroom due to the smoke released by the fire in his sofa.

Emergency services tried to resuscitate him outside the apartment, to no avail. The man was pronounced dead shortly after 10 p.m.

At the time of the intervention, emergency services asked other residents to remain confined to their homes, others were evacuated as a precaution. They were finally able to return to their homes around 11 p.m., once the fire was contained.
