Laughter will be in the spotlight this evening at the Théâtre de l’Espérance with an additional performance of the comedy “Les Amazones”, notably with Véronique Mattana. This evening will not be like the others, because it is dedicated to a noble cause: supporting the Otium Center, which helps those who are directly or indirectly battling cancer. Catherine Fouquet, deputy director of the Otium centers, was my guest.

While the performances are in full swing, the excitement is palpable around the date of May 1st. But beyond entertainment, it is an approach of solidarity that animates this theatrical evening. “It’s a magnificent gift that they gave us that evening,” confides Catherine Fouquet, evoking the generosity of the Théâtre de l’Espérance.

The Otium Center, well known for its 360-degree approach, offers daily support to people affected by cancer, as well as those around them. “Every day we welcome men, women and young people who are directly or indirectly affected by cancer,” explains Ms. Fouquet. She underlines the importance of “continuing to be open to everyday life and in particular to enjoy good times, such as going to the theater.”

And there will be good times. The play “The Amazons” tells the story of three women who, disappointed by their love lives, decide to live together, triggering a series of situations as comical as they are unexpected. “It’s not a play that talks about illness, it has nothing to do with it,” explains the deputy director, recalling the light and entertaining nature of the evening.

Funded solely by donations, the Otium Center offers a wide range of complementary therapies, ranging from makeup workshops to meditation, including self-hypnosis, laughter yoga and nutrition. “We have to be able to adapt to this fairly diverse audience,” insists Catherieque Fouquet. She adds that “people learn to reconnect with what really makes them feel good,” in an environment where the expression of emotions is encouraged.

As for the financing of the Center, Catherine Fouquet reassures: “People who come to the Otium Center will be able to access individual appointments which are chargeable. They will then be reimbursed by their basic or complementary insurance.” She also specifies that group lessons are offered free of charge, thus ensuring accessibility to all.

The evening therefore promises to be under the sign of generosity and joy. With a special rate of 20 francs and a free cup, the public is invited to laugh while contributing to an essential cause. Because, as Catherine Fouquet reminds us, “what is important is to live and feel the emotions and to give them free rein”.

An evening not to be missed, for the pleasure of theater and the support of a mission that touches each of us, directly or indirectly.
