After the failed attempts to organize the Winter Olympics in 2030 and 2034, Switzerland will try its luck again for those in 2038. The Federal Council announced on Friday that it was mobilizing to give the best possible chances to the Swiss candidacy.
Last year, Switzerland saw its candidacy for the 2030 and 2034 Winter Olympics rejected by the International Olympic Committee, which chose France and the United States for these games.

In return, the IOC promised a right of preference to Switzerland for 2038, if it manages to refine its file by 2027. The Federal Council intends to move forward.

A working group
The government has decided to set up an interdepartmental working group to support work in this direction. The Sports Department is responsible for planning and analyzing the financial participation of the Confederation.
Switzerland has not organized an Olympic Games since those in St. Moritz in 1948. Since then, several attempts have failed for various reasons, the latest being the rejection at the ballot box of the Sion 2026 candidacy.
