In Givors, the week was punctuated by urban violence, peaking during the night from Saturday to Sunday.
In possible retaliation for the arrest of five minors after an attack, several groups were formed in the city to damage street furniture and set fire to two municipal police cars in the town hall parking lot.
In an interview with Progrès, mayor Mohamed Boudjellaba (a related environmentalist) adopted an offensive speech against the thugs: “We will have zero tolerance! These kids, probably manipulated by people bigger than them, will not win. We will do our best to ensure that this little core is put behind bars by the courts. They were filmed by video surveillance, all is in the hands of the investigators. I hope that they will be arrested and convicted..
The councilor Givordin, “angry and helpless”, also made announcements in terms of security. Mohamed Boudjellaba recalled that video surveillance would develop in Givors, that the municipal police would be deployed on new schedules, but above all that they could be armed in the future, which is not the case today. “At some point, if we have to go, we will.”he blurted.
The Rhône prefecture, for its part, had already announced the arrival of national police reinforcements in Givors, even if the torrential rains this Sunday should calm the situation.
