Update April 28, 2024 at 11:00 p.m.
Quebec experienced its first 20°C of the year at the beginning of April in the west and south. However, the province will have to deal with the consequences of a shocking setback before seeing the next sweet treats again. Forecasts.
In short
A taste of summer
We can say that this weekend was generous in terms of temperatures: maximums above 20°C were recorded on Saturday and Sunday in places. The town of Saint-Anicet also saw the mercury rise to 21.5°C on Saturday and almost 22°C on Sunday.
However, a turnaround in the situation will plunge Quebec into the heart of a dome of cold air that will cause the thermometer to plummet.
No time for gardening
Starting Monday, an imposing arctic air mass will settle over a large part of the Canadian territory: temperatures will be up to 4°C below seasonal norms for the first half of the week in southern Quebec and until ‘at 8°C below normal further north.
Prairie regions, northwestern Ontario and northern Quebec could even receive notable amounts of snow.
At its lowest next night, the thermometer will have lost nearly fifteen degrees Celsius in less than 12 hours for the metropolitan region. In places, minimums below freezing point are expected overnight from Monday to Tuesday, particularly in Saguenay. Weather conditions worthy of the month of March; a real step back.
Patience rewarded
The good news is that this mass of cold air will quickly retreat to give way to a regime of mildness: from the second half of the week, it will be the return of maximums above seasonal norms for a good part of Quebec.
