Burglary in a nursing home in Essonne: they steal a 200 kg safe with a pallet truck

The timing is questionable. Two nursing homes in Essonne, around twenty kilometers apart, had their safes containing several hundred euros and checkbooks stolen, the same night, a few hours apart. Investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators.

It was on the night of Wednesday May 8 to Thursday May 9 that the events occurred. With, first of all, a break-in into a senior residence on rue du Bois-de-Châtres in Brétigny-sur-Orge. It’s about 3 o’clock. The perpetrators managed to enter the building by breaking the front door. They arrive in front of a safe containing €600 in cash, as well as a checkbook, and take everything.

While the police were notified, another similar theft took place at the Coteaux de l’Yvette nursing home in Bures-sur-Yvette, around 6 a.m…. This time, the team of criminals – 6 according to images from CCTV – managed to take the 200kg safe using a pallet truck. They had entered through the kitchens of the establishment.

In the process, the perpetrators took the trunk back to a nearby wood, emptied its contents, before fleeing. The object is discovered in the early morning, wide open, relieved of €500 in small denominations. Documents and a checkbook also disappeared.

In both cases, the national police took fingerprints from the safes. If the reconciliation of the facts can raise questions, “these are indeed two investigations [distinctes ndlr] for break-in at a meeting” which were opened, specifies the Évry-Courcouronnes public prosecutor’s office.

Last February, two suspects were arrested in connection with a series of thefts from safes in nursing homes. At least five establishments had been burglarized.
