Good news in perspective for Moroccan civil servants. Tuesday, the head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, received in audience a delegation from the Moroccan Labor Union (UMT) led by its secretary general, Miloudi Moukharik, as part of social dialogue. The two parties would have agreed on the occasion of a general increase in salaries which would amount to 1,000 dirhams, sources told the newspaper. Al3omkadding that this increase should be accompanied by a reduction of 150 to 400 dirhams in income tax.

Civil servants in scale 9 and above would be affected by this increase, to the detriment of the more numerous agents in lower categories, specify the same sources, announcing the validation of these proposals by the government by next Tuesday. As for the increase in salaries, its implementation should take place in two stages: the first next July and the second in 2025, detail the same sources.

The government and the unions would also have agreed on the strike law, which should allow the modification of this text, particularly with regard to its general principles. The new version will be presented during the parliamentary session next October. Likewise, the two parties are discussing the reform of pension funds with a view to a review of its general principles and an increase in the retirement age to 63 years.

Although included on the agenda of the session, the question of rereading the Labor Code was postponed sine die, in order to allow the parties to agree on the points to be modified. Civil servants, for their part, warn union leaders against any form of concessions with the government, noting that the 1,000 dirhams proposed could prove insignificant in a context of inflation and continued rise in the prices of several products.
