80th anniversary of the Landing. Cotentin: in this reenactment camp, an immersion in the 1940s

The Nord Cotentin Mémoire 1944 association is organizing its third edition of the reenactment camp ally THE May 18, 19 and 20, 2024.

The association is labeled 80^e anniversary of the Landing by the Normandy Region, the entrance to the camp is free.

More and more visitors

On November 11, 1943, Allied intelligence mounted Operation Crossbow to destroy the V1 and V2 missile installations.

No fewer than 160 American Marauders dropped 300 tons of bombs on the Virandeville and Couville sites. Each year, during the three days, the organizers note an increase in number of visitors on the camp.

The program

In period outfitsthe re-enactors open the site on Friday, May 17 for school students which will be immersed in the 1940s for an afternoon: demonstrations equipment, presentation of military equipment and free snack.

On Saturday morning, the re-enactors will have gotten up early for a period parade of military vehicles And civilians on the territory of Fluke and Divettedeparture at 9 a.m.

The camp will open to the public at 10 a.m. The afternoon will be very festive with a demonstration of American football, equipment, games for childrena restoration on site and a ball from the 40s.

A rock concert

On Sunday the 19th, the morning will be more ceremonial with theinauguration of a plaque on the wall of the church in memory of the 39^e regiment of the 9^e American infantry division which liberated the Douve and Divette sector.

Activities identical to Saturday will punctuate the afternoon which will end with a concert Flying chickens, a rock band. On Monday the 20th, the day will be classic with the same activities and the camp will close its doors at 5:30 p.m.
