The body of a resident who died during a trip to Cuba in March, whose family, wanting to repatriate him, had received the body of an unknown person of Russian origin, was finally found in Russia, confirm the relatives of the deceased .

My father’s body is now in Russia and is buried in a town north of Moscowaffirms Karam Jarjour, son of Faraj Allah Jarjour, specifying that this information was provided to him by a person from the Canadian government.

In an interview with CBC, his sister Miriam explained that the body would be exhumed and then repatriated.

We have no choice, it’s a mistake by the Cubans. It’s certain that we’re not well. My mother doesn’t feel well at all.

A quote from Miriam Jarjour, daughter of Faraj Allah Jarjour

These are hard times. We still have to wait, the situation is complicated nowcontinues Karam.

Faraj Allah Jarjour’s children indicate that they have had no contact with the family of the deceased Russian.

The Canadian government has reimbursed the amount paid by the Jarjour family and is working fully to bring the body of the deceased back to Montreal, according to Karam Jarjour.

The family had completed all the formalities and paid $10,000 for the repatriation of the father’s body, which was to arrive on April 19 in Montreal.

A funeral home, which was to prepare and embalm the body, notified family members of the mistaken identity. Employees had doubts when comparing the remains to a photo sent by the Jarjour family.

This situation came on top of the shortcomings observed in Cuba after the death of Mr. Jarjour.

According to his children, the body of the deceased had remained on a beach chair covered with a sheet for more than eight hours (from 3:30 p.m. to midnight) before morgue employees came to collect it around midnight with a simple car, not an ambulance or funeral van.

Today, the Jarjour family says they are being patient, because they still do not know when the body will arrive in Montreal.

The children want to organize a funeral in memory of their father. Everything has been reservedsays his son Karam.

Unlike the very beginning of this affair, where she claims to have felt lost, Miriam Jarjour says she appreciates the follow-up provided by representatives of the Canadian government, including a telephone call received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mélanie Joly.

As for the Cuban government, it was content with a publication on the X network and an apology transmitted through officials from Global Affairs Canada.
