After racing in Guerlédan (1st) and Moncontour (3rd) last year, why did you choose to return to Brittany?
When I was studying in Saint-Brieuc, the Cap Fréhel area was my training ground. This is what made me want to participate in this race. And as we are going on a trip to Cape Verde next week, it was an opportunity to take a little detour to Brittany. I know it’s a popular event and the course is beautiful.
What memories do you have of this region?
I especially know the coast around Cap-Fréhel up to Sables-d’Or-les-Pins. It’s super beautiful, the passages on the beaches are very atypical. The route is a dream. 33 km in places like this makes you want to go there. I can’t wait to find out the rest.
Aren’t you afraid that it will be too difficult for the mountaineer that you are?
I like it when it’s rolling, a bit like in Guerlédan. I prefer these formats to those of the Pyrenees, where there are climbs of 1,500 meters.
What kind of shape are you in?
It was a little complicated at the French championship (April 7 in Drôme, Editor’s note), with a 29th place. I was not happy with this performance. Mentally, the race had been difficult and frankly, I was worried about my form. Finally, I reassured myself about a race last weekend. So I would say that I am in roughly the same mood as I was a year ago, before Guerlédan.
Is Landes et Bruyères a good preparation for Guerlédan, precisely, where you will put your title back on the line on May 19?
I think this 33 km, quite hilly, is ideal preparation. Guerlédan will also be my first big objective of the year before the Grand Raid des Pyrénées at the end of August. Especially since I will bring back two solid runners from the Pyrenees, including Loris Lassere who won the 106 km of the Trans Aubrac last weekend.
