Valais: Two drivers identified thanks to Snapchat and TikTok

Wanting to broadcast their “exploits” on social networks, two young drivers were recently caught at their own game, in Valais, as the cantonal police announced on Thursday. The first was filmed while traveling at more than 250km/h on the A9, in July 2022. A video that he shared on Snapchat. It was bad for him, since the police found him and denounced him. Aged 21 at the time of the facts, the Portuguese was convicted at the end of 2023 for the offense of driving.

The second, meanwhile, was spotted on TikTok. In November 2022, the then 23-year-old Swiss published a video in which he crossed a motorway tunnel, in Haut-Valais, at a speed of 235 km/h instead of the authorized 100 km/h. “The investigation revealed that the driver had committed numerous other violations of the Road Traffic Act between 2020 and 2023,” police revealed. “Prowess”, as the police ironically described them, which the young man had also recorded. The latter was also convicted of driving. According to the police, several criminal instructions for similar facts are currently being processed.

Without specifying to whom the sentence was awarded, the police explained that a two-year license suspension had been imposed on one of the crazy drivers. A repeat offender, the other “had his driving license permanently revoked”. If he wants to return one day, he will have to start everything from scratch. This not immediately and only on the basis of psychological expertise.
