Corporate mental health highlighted in the region

The President and CEO of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of Quebec (FCCQ), Charles Milliard, is visiting Gaspésie and the Magdalen Islands this week.

This Gaspé and Madelin tour will be a way for him to take the pulse of the region’s entrepreneurs, but also to address the subject of mental health in business.

This is an extremely alarming subject.says Charles Millard. I have participated in several conferences and several anonymous or not anonymous discussions with entrepreneurs who find it difficult on a financial, operational and also human level.he says.

Mr. Milliard is notably the guest of honor at a conference on mental health which takes place in Caplan on Thursday.

Organized by the Baie-des-Chaleurs Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIBDC), this panel will bring together several professionals from different backgrounds with the aim of discussing mental health in the workplace.

Times are pretty tough for everyone […] and we have a lot of employers who tell us that they have a lot of work stoppages linked to mental health issues explains the general director of the CCIBDC, Valentine Palma.

It’s really important to have events that address these issues and how to create simple workplaces.

For the general director of the Côte-de-Gaspé chamber of commerce, Marie-Claude Brière, it is important to discuss this issue, particularly in her sector where several entrepreneurs are hard hit by the crisis which is shaking the transportation industry. peaches.

Mental, physical and even financial health are essential subjects […] Mental health is an important subject that is not discussed enough […] We are obliged to open this conversation more forcefully this year with what is happening in the fishing community. We are really monitoring distress among entrepreneurs who are in areas that are more affectedmaintains Ms. Brière.

There should be no taboos about talking about our health in general.

A quote from Marie-Claude Brière, CEO of the Côte-de-Gaspé Chamber of Commerce

If it is the world of fishing that is shaken on the Gaspé tip, it is the farmers in particular who are hard hit in Baie-des-Chaleurs.

We see that financial instability adds a burden on farmers, who are effectively left to their own devices in the face of this situation and I think it is important to react quickly supports Valentine Palma.

According to Mr. Milliard, entrepreneurs need help. Yes, government aid, but also a kind of mentoring between entrepreneurs, who want to share their difficult experiences with each other, as an opportunity to grow in this profession, rewarding, but not always easy.he said.

At the Côte-de-Gaspé Chamber of Commerce, mutual aid and listening initiatives to support members have been made available to them.

Valentine Palma CCIBDC indicates that Thursday’s morning conference will give them ideas for setting up psychological help services.

There will be toolboxes available to our members […] gradually, I think it would be good if we put in place resources and help lines mentions Ms. Palma.

Meeting entrepreneurs

Charles Milliard’s first stop in the peninsula was in Gaspé on Wednesday to meet entrepreneurs in the sector. He then attended the Annual General Meeting of the Côte-de-Gaspé Chamber of Commerce.

We are really happy to welcome Charlesmentions Marie-Claude Brière.

We are already satisfied with the work being done at the Federation of Chambers of Commerce. The relationship between the federation and the regions is real, we have quarterly meetings, we feel that people are being listened to and we feel our local discourse taken to the national level. […] and there, what’s more, we have meetings on the ground, it’s even bettershe adds.
