Arson attacks in Villeray and Saint-Laurent

Two arson attacks were started in Montreal on the night of Friday to Saturday, the first in the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough and the second in Saint-Laurent.

Around 2 a.m., police and firefighters were dispatched to Chabot Street near Everett Street because of a vehicle on fire.

The fire was brought under control by firefighters. No injuries were reported, but the vehicle is a total loss.

Around 2 a.m., a fire broke out in a vehicle parked on Everett Street in Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension.

According to initial information available, a suspect sprayed a flammable liquid, lit it and then fled on foot.explained Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).

The investigation was taken over by investigators from the Arson Unit of the SPVM.

Second fire

Then, around 3 a.m., a fire broke out in a vehicle on Badeaux Street near Bertrand Street. The blaze spread to the residence where the car was parked.

The residents were able to be evacuated and suffered no injuries.

The vehicle is a total loss, while the property has suffered major damage.

A container with flammable liquid was located and at least two suspects were observed leaving the scenesaid the spokesperson for the Montreal police force.

Investigators of the SPVM will analyze the scene on Saturday morning to try to understand the causes and circumstances of this event.
