Solutions for transport emitting less CO₂ are multiple. We already know about electric vehicles which are mainly chosen, but there are also fuel cell vehicles usinghydrogen. Despite the fact that this type of vehicle is less popular here, other places on the globe list more of them. This is also the case in California, where Honda has just presented the CR-V e:FCEV 2025.

A hydrogen-powered engine

The 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV may not be available here, but it is still interesting to know more about this product. It is assembled at the Honda Center located in Marysville, Ohio and uses the first application of the second generation Honda fuel cell module, which is produced at Fuel Cell System Manufacturing in Michigan. In addition, the new generation Honda fuel cell module was developed in partnership with the American manufacturer GM. This partnership reduced costs by two-thirds compared to the fuel cell system in the Honda Clarity fuel cell.

According to available information, the autonomy of the Honda CR-V e:FCEV 2025 would be 434 kilometers. The power coming from the electric motorization would be 174 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque.

Limited availability

The new 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV will be a limited quantity vehicle in the United States. Moreover, only 12 Californian dealerships of the Japanese brand will be able to sell them.

According to the information in the manufacturer’s press release, the 2025 Honda CR-V e:FCEV is offered at an MSRP of $50,000 USD and would be fully equipped from the outset, without additional options. Also according to the press release, the leasing plans offered by the manufacturer have very reasonable monthly payments of around $390 to $490, depending on the terms. In addition, a hydrogen fuel credit is also offered, varying between $15,000 and $30,000.

The manufacturer therefore seems motivated to put these hydrogen SUVs on the road on the California side. On our side of the border, Honda is focusing more on hybridization and electrification.
