Shepherd François Cerbonney made the macabre discovery on April 15, 2024: one of his sheep had been fatally attacked by an animal. The first findings could suggest a wolf, the presence of which was established in the area; agents from the French Biodiversity Office (OFB) had been dispatched to the site for analyses.

Camera traps remain in place
The results of hair analyzes collected at the scene of the attack have been revealed. “The responsibility of a wolf is ruled out”, indicated the Manche prefecture. Analysis revealed that the hair found was that of a dog. “Since the end of March, three reports of damage to sheep have been reported to the OFB. For two of them, the responsibility of the wolf is ruled out. For the third, the cause of the damage is undetermined. Furthermore, camera traps, placed by the OFB services, will remain in place on the ground as long as necessary to monitor the area. »
The Prefecture reminds us: “Any suspicious sighting of a large canid or any attack on a domestic herd must be quickly reported to the competent departmental service of the OFB (Service Départemental de la Manche [email protected]). »
