An 81-year-old man suffered serious injuries after a stabbing that occurred Monday morning in Gatineau.

The violent event occurred near a housing building for the elderly, at the corner of Jean-René-Monette and Vianney streets.

Officers from the Service de police de la Ville de Gatineau (SPVG) were called to intervene shortly before 10:30 a.m.

They found an octogenarian suffering from serious injuries on site. During his transport to hospital, the victim was conscious, police reported in a press release released around 4:30 p.m.

Bloodhounds were able to handcuff a suspect not far from the scene of the tragedy.

The 41-year-old man was interviewed by investigators and is currently in custody. He must return to court Tuesday morning and should face “multiple” charges, indicate the Gatineau police.

“The first elements of the investigation show that there are no links between the victim and the suspect,” writes the SPVG in a press release.

Several witnesses were met to shed light on this event.

It was impossible to find out more about the state of health of the octogenarian late Monday evening.
