Every year in September, they come back tirelessly for the greatest pleasure of history buffs, architecture lovers, but also for that of curious onlookers to learn more about their city and the buildings they come across every day, often in general indifference. The Heritage Days will be held on the weekend of September 21 and 22. A 41e edition placed under the theme of the heritage of routes, networks and connections, but which will also give pride of place to maritime heritage.
Created in 1984 in France, this event has since conquered Europe and takes place in around fifty countries. The Doubs is no exception to this fever, the aim of which is to protect heritage by making it known and accessible.
Multiple activities
Guided tours, thematic tours, conferences or even walks in the heart of cities, many sites in Doubs play the game and offer something new to visitors. Religious buildings dating back several centuries will be part of the event, as will the classics, the must-see places such as the Citadel of Besançon, the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans or the Château de Joux in La Cluse-et-Mijoux.
If they meet with certain success, other more modest or more anonymous places will also be part of it with the ambition of sharing knowledge, a tradition. This is the case of a dry stone wall restoration school-site in Laval-le-Prieuré which will introduce an ancestral technique that only survives through the transmission of the right gestures to use.
Heritage Days will also be on the programme at many museums in Doubs, such as in Ornans where the Gustave-Courbet museum will be offering a sports visit.

Administration and business
These two days of showcasing local heritage are also an opportunity to discover the mysteries of the sometimes opaque world of administration, as in Montbéliard or Besançon with a guided tour of the municipal archives. Companies will also take part in the celebrations and some will not hesitate to open their doors so that visitors can discover what goes on behind the scenes. It is with this in mind that Grupo Antolin will open its doors to the families of their employees for various demonstrations and workshop visits.
The offer of these two days should allow everyone to find what they are looking for and satisfy their curiosity.
Discovering Besançon-les-Bains
Besançon, a spa town? The name may raise a smile, but the city of Victor-Hugo benefits from this status, unknown to locals due to the destruction of its establishment in 1966. The spa establishment, the first stone of which was laid in 1890, was located near the casino and was equipped with 64 cabins. After several years of growth, making the banks of the Doubs places for festive events, the spa activity gradually declined at the beginning of the 20th centurye century before disappearing completely at the end of the First World War. The baths were abandoned for several years before being demolished and a hotel was built in their place. The casino’s function room would house the National Drama Centre. On the occasion of Heritage Days and in order to highlight this period, a walk was organized around the casino and the grand bathing hotel.
