The Ministry of Ecological Transition launched on Thursday April 18 an experimental service intended for communities to facilitate their adaptation to global warming. The Adaptation Mission, co-led by public agencies (Ademe, Cerema, water agencies, Météo-, etc.), has the mission, according to the ministry, “to support or accelerate territorial dynamics of adaptation to climate change, and that each supported territory builds a solid adaptation strategy by 2030”. It should allow communities to rely on experts to better put together their adaptation plans.

“I plead that we all have a little bit of Pas-de- in us! »said the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, in reference to the floods which hit the northern department of France this winter, events whose frequency and intensity are increasing with global warming.

Preparing France for a rise in temperatures

The Minister for Ecological Transition intends to prepare France for an increase in temperatures of 4 degrees in 2100 compared to the pre-industrial era. Once the experiment has been launched, the Adaptation Mission will be implemented with regional teams, according to the agreement signed Thursday by the stakeholders. The experiment is planned to last one year.

Adapting to climate change involves protecting ourselves against risks that increase with climate change. Coastal communities are, for example, vulnerable to the retreat of the coastline, mountain areas to the melting of glaciers and snow, overseas communities to the increase in cyclones and large cities to the intensity of heatwaves. The Ministry of Ecological Transition specified that 250 million euros from its green fund had been devoted to territorial adaptation.
