the essential
This Thursday evening, Beijing Express returns to your screens. And among the pairs, we find two Toulouse residents: Max and Hélène, who presented themselves at La Dépêche.
“We’re easy to fool around with, we like to laugh and make people laugh,” says Max. The latter forms a couple with Hélène, in life, but also on screen. The duo from Toulouse takes part in the new edition of Beijing Expressbroadcast from Thursday January 16. What already unites them is therefore humor.
She did improvisational theater, he did stand-up. “I have a very natural side, saying stupid things quite easily,” jokes Hélène. Aged 37, this advisor-in-training admits she “still has 24 in her head”. For his part, Max, 39, is a developer.

A test without rest
Only six months after meeting on an app, they decided to register for the casting. A whim. “It was crazy, at no time did we think we would be selected,” they say. So when production calls them back, it’s a shock. “We thought it was a friend playing a joke on us!”

Beijing Express, game show broadcast since 2006, sees several pairs compete in a race across different countries. All with just one euro per day per person. A risky bet for a young couple? This is not the opinion of Hélène and Max, who felt “no concern” on this subject. “Our bond was established very quickly. We had a fluidity that we had never felt before. We were calm about our abilities to exchange, to communicate.”
A wedding approaching
The two people from Toulouse seem enchanted by this “incredible” experience, this year through Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho and South Africa. “I have traveled a lot in my life,” says Hélène. “I had even hitchhiked before, slept with locals. no rest, and we are under pressure.”

A few hours before the broadcast of the first episode, stress and excitement mix in the couple’s minds. “But we are proud to represent the Pink City,” they confess. They have also created accounts on Instagram to interact with viewers.
“We saw people on social networks wondering if our relationship had lasted,” relates Hélène. The answer is a big YES, since they are even going to get married. The date has not yet been set, but “by the end of the year”.
