the company L’Arbre potager dives back into Greek mythology

The La Blaiserie performance hall, in -Ouest, is plunged into darkness. On one of the two screens placed side by side, in front of the stage, the silhouette of Polydectes, king of the Greek island of Seriphos, stands out. On the adjoining canvas, young Perseus undertakes to go and kill the gorgon Medusa, on condition that the old monarch stops harassing his mother, Princess Danae, daughter of the King of Argos.

In the footsteps of the heroes Theseus and Perseus

It is the actresses Mélanie Montaubin and Marie Hesse who bring these Chinese shadows to life: each placed behind an overhead projector, they move cut-out paper figurines, while lending their voices to the heroes of this mythological show intended for young audiences. At their side, Élodie Gendre takes care of the sound effects produced live and launches the soundtrack composed by Antoine Compagnon.

Titled The Intrepidsthis new show from the Poitevin company L’Arbre potager begins with the epic of Theseus setting out to challenge the Minotaur. The drawings – made by Mélanie Montaubin – are superb. The scenes follow one another fluidly and always with a good dose of humor and second-degree to delight the parents who will accompany their children. “The show is aimed at children aged 8 and over, advances Mélanie Montaubin. It’s good that they have already covered Greek mythology at school, so that they are between CM1 and 5e. But mythology is also addressed in recent films and books, with the saga of Percy Jackson, for example, and even in video games. It is therefore accessible to everyone. There mythology, it’s the superheroes of Antiquity! »

If the idea of Fearless was born even before After Zeus (a previous show by the company, created in 2021, also evoking Greek mythology), the scenography was first designed for two narrators, manipulators and noisemakers, until Marie Hesse joined the adventure, there is one year. Several creative residencies followed, at the Maison des Trois-Quartiers in Poitiers, at La Marchoise in Gençay and at the Grange aux loups in Chauvigny.

Since January 6, under the complicit gaze of Richard Sammut, the three artists have been refining the show in the La Blaiserie room, where it will be created this Wednesday, January 15.

Wednesday January 15, 2025, at 3:30 p.m., at the La Blaiserie sociocultural center, rue des Frères-Montgolfier, in Poitiers. Prices: from €3.50 to €10. Such. 05.49.58.05.52. lablaiserie.org
