A South Korean star headlines this festival which takes place in Mayenne

From May 24 to 31, 2025, the 28th edition of the festival Ateliers jazz from Meslay-du-Maine (Mayenne). The team revealed the first name and headliner of the festival.

This is Youn Sun Nah, a South Korean singer recognized in Asia and more widely around the world for her qualities as a jazz artist. She will be on stage at the Espace Corail in Villiers-Charlemagne on Tuesday, May 27, at 8:30 p.m.

Youn Sun Nah: a jazz star in Meslay-du-Maine

Endowed with great vocal abilities, Youn Sun Nah is a jazz star beyond its borders. Indeed, the South Korean Francophile has been evolving on the international jazz scene for around twenty years, crowned with gold records and professional prizes rewarding in particular the vocal technicality of the singer.

Jumbled together, Youn Sun Nah is decorated with the title of Knight of Arts and Letters in 2009. In 2011, she won the Jazz Vocal Prize from the Jazz Academy and a Korean Award.

A year later, his native country awarded him a special prize for his contribution to popular culture and the arts. A career well spent!

An expected new opus

For reasons of work at the sociocultural room of Meslay-du-Maine, it is the coral area of ​​Villiers-Charlemagne that Youn Sun Nah will perform with a brand new opus.

“Through an anthology of covers, she pays tribute to the voices of women and in particular to some of the singers who have marked the journey of Youn Sun Nah, from Nina Simone to Roberta Flack via Björk or Edith Piafbeyond eras and musical borders,” says Jeff Landeauartistic director of the Meslin festival.

You will be able to hear songs written or performed by notable female artists, from the spiritual Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child to the psychedelic rock of White Rabbit, including the classics My Funny Valentine and Killing Me Softly With His Song.

In duet with a pianist

On stage, the South Korean will be accompanied “by the subtle and inventive work of the multi-awarded pianist Bojan Z on different acoustic and electric pianos.
