Darkoo vs Peter Okoye: the clash that shakes the Nigerian music industry

British-Nigerian singer and rapper Oluwafisayo Isaalias Darko took to social media to reveal that the music video for his latest song, « Focus on Me (All the Sexy Girls in the Club) »had been withdrawn for six days due to requests deemed absurd made by Peter Okoye of the group P-Square.

Darkoo accuses P-Square’s Peter Okoye: ‘He blocked my success’

The song « Focus on Me » samples the 2009 hit by P-Square, « Gimme That »for which Darkoo claims to have obtained all the necessary authorizations before the title’s release. However, although the rapper took care to ensure that P-Square receives approximately 50% of the royalties generated by this single, she declared that she had an altercation with Peter Okoye (aka Mr. P), who allegedly demanded to appear in the song despite initial agreements.

According to Darkoo, Peter Okoye offered to write his own verse and asked to participate, while demanding that it remain secret from his brothers, Paul et Jude Okoyeto avoid tensions. Darkoo said Paul and Jude Okoye were courteous and did not make any additional demands when she contacted them for the sampling rights to « Gimme That ».

Although Darkoo promised to include Peter Okoye in the remix of the song, the latter was reportedly dissatisfied and had the music video removed from YouTubeaccusing Darkoo of disrespecting him. “It’s heartbreaking because I grew up admiring him, and seeing someone I once admired actively trying to harm me and block my success is incredibly painful,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
