A fire hit the ArcelorMittal site in Grande-Synthe this Friday, January 3. Significant resources were mobilized to bring the fire under control.
A fire struck the ArcelorMittal site in Grande-Synthe, BFM Grand Littoral learned this Friday, January 3. At this time, no injuries have been reported.
“A fire broke out on a conveyor belt supplying coal to the coking plant. Immediately, internal firefighters intervened, then supported by external firefighters,” said ArcelorMittal management.
Significant resources on site
The fire is under control and internal firefighters remain active to deal with the remaining hot spots. “The coking plant, although operating in degraded mode, has not stopped production,” the company said.
As the places are classified as at risk, significant resources have been mobilized. In total, six vans and around sixty men were on site.
-“At this stage, we do not yet know the reasons for this fire and an investigation will have to determine them,” ArcelorMittal said.
The prefecture of the Hauts-de-France and North regions indicated that atmospheric surveys had been carried out and that their results ruled out any risk for the populations.
