With 70 galleries, Art Antwerp, which held its 4e edition from December 12 to 15, is reaching cruising speed in its natural market, Northern Europe.
Nele Verhaeren succeeded Ann Vierstraete at the head of the fair since the 2022 edition (and of Art Brussels since the end of 2022): the number of exhibitors, she specifies, will only grow marginally, but she observes increasing attendance: 15,640 visitors (+15% compared to 2023). The fair benefits from Antwerp’s heritage. The historian Filip Vermeylen, co-founder of the Rotterdam Arts & Sciences Lab, recalls that in the 15the century, Antwerp was home to one of the oldest object fairs in Northern Europe. His research on the heritage of Antwerp houses (1565-1585) shows that 90% of the owners owned at least one original work.
