“With our means, we must be more inventive”: the City of Pont-l’Abbé defends the map of cultural attractiveness

“With the creation of the Attractive City center, we wanted to ensure that cultural life in Pont-l’Abbé is not limited to the season at the Triskell,” insists Stéphane Le Doaré, mayor of Pont-l’Abbé, in response to the departure of programmer Vincent Garreau. He specifies that Ville has received 77 applications for this position and that recruitment is underway.

A culturally rich year

After a year “particularly rich on a cultural level”, the mayor says he is comforted in the choice made by elected officials at the end of 2023 to give new impetus to culture. The Bigouden museum “hors les Murs” thus offered an exhibition by Jacques Gaudin relocated to the Triskell, which recorded more than 3,000 admissions in five weeks this summer. The media library flirts with 50,000 visitors (49,800 visits in 2024) and has hosted seven exhibitions and 113 events.

Halfway through its season, the Triskell hall had 4,975 spectators for fourteen shows. “We can hope to reach 9,000 to 10,000 spectators. Which will bring us back to the standard of 2019, before the health crisis, with 11,000 spectators and an average capacity of 500 people,” underlines Stéphane Le Doaré. Jeudis des quais also found their audience with around 3,000 people counted during the four evenings, despite gloomy weather, as did the “Quai Saint-Lau’” festival in partnership with the Shaker association, which the City wishes to continue to organize. to accompany.

“Bringing different places to life”

He also cites the new proposals that have emerged this year: the contemporary art exhibition in public space co-produced with the Labalade association, that of the illustrator Laurent Moreau in partnership with Très Tôt Théâtre, or the party from the XXL game to the Triskell. “We want to bring our different places to life and create routes in the city. We are also looking for a long-term exhibition room,” specifies the elected official.

In 2024, “more than 290,000 euros have been devoted to cultural policy”, he indicates, excluding exceptional subsidies (Brodeuses, Snapp Jazz festival) or the provision of spaces and staff. And the City has also supported school projects around dance and cinema. “With our resources, that of a town of 9,000 inhabitants, we have to be more inventive. In this somewhat uncertain moment for local finances, we have not sacrificed culture,” assures the mayor.

A new look at the museum’s collections

In addition to the City’s desire to continue to develop urban art, the future of the Bigouden museum is taking shape behind the scenes as part of the restoration of the Château des Barons. A new scenography will thus be developed for the reopening of the museum in 2026.

Furthermore, a reflection will be carried out with a project management assistant to define the modernization needs of the Triskell performance hall, which is more than 30 years old. “We are asking questions about its redevelopment and expansion, particularly to accommodate more conferences. The circle also needs more comfortable rehearsal conditions,” explains Stéphane Le Doaré.
