Through the understanding of a neighborhood, Malik Nejmi explores his own reconstruction, child of an immigrant father who never spoke of his country of origin. A work of memory coupled with an equally fascinating artist’s view at the Saint-Pierre-le-Puellier collegiate church.
Child of the La Source district and the famous T17, struck by lightning on October 29, 2023, Malik Nejmi presents “Ter-Ter {healing the neighborhood}”, an artistic and documentary immersion in the heart of the Orléans district and its tower of seventeen floors.
Very large format photos, pieces of the rubble of this tower with its enameled facade, but also the interior of reconstructed apartments, resin figurines of children, a prospective model to “repair” the neighborhood, a sound composition, an orthophotograph of the old tower of Place Ernest-Renan, a film made up of amateur images of the demolition, portraits of residents…
Until February 2, at the Saint-Pierre-le-Puellier collegiate church, the Orléans artist offers an emotional journey in this formidable work of memory.
Travel between Morocco and France
This documentary and anthropological work is the culmination of nearly four years of work “and research which reflects what the Orléans artist went through, artistically and humanly”, who, already in 2013, had reconstituted, during his residency at the Villa Medici, in Rome, “The Moroccan Room”.
“The majority of my artistic production (photographs, films, installations) is located between Morocco and France, in the field of an intimate work. I deal with migration issues, and, through history of my father and his exile, I question the son’s vision of wanting to reconnect with a country synonymous with an absence of transmission.”
