Huge success for the Montpellier stage of the largest free live poker circuit in France. 944 players participated and 18 of them – including four from Hérault – won their ticket to the national final in 2025.
We had to add tables this weekend at the Montpellier exhibition center! While 800 players were expected, 944 poker enthusiasts, previously qualified online, participated.
This is much more than the 692 players registered in January 2023 in the same place, when the Winamax Poker Tour returned to Montpellier after five years of absence.
The qualifiers were accompanied by players from the Winamax pro team, such as Julien Sitbon or Gaëlle Baumann. Confirmed players such as Moundir Zoughari, ex-reality TV star.
This tournament was one of ten live stages contested in ten cities in France, all qualifying for the national final which will be held next March in Aix-en-Provence.
With ten players per table, you had to aim right by betting your 40,000 chips. Like two years ago, it was a Lyonnais who was eliminated on the first hand, with a pair of aces against… a four of a kind nine!
Like many players who left the main tournament prematurely, he found refuge in one of the two side tournaments which allowed three players to also qualify for the national final.
Montpellier Poker was part of the party
At the end of the weekend, a total of eighteen players – all men, still largely the majority in the world of poker – had won their tickets to Aix-en-Provence. Among them, four from Hérault: Matthieu from Saint-Bauzille-de-La-Sylve, Sébastien from Lunel, Guillaume and Tomy from Montpellier.
Others will have the opportunity to qualify during stages organized throughout France. Two years ago, there were eleven of us from our department who won their precious ticket to the national final.
Around thirty players from the Montpellier Poker club, a Winamax partner club, took part in this party. The club, which has never done so well with nearly 250 members, will organize its main event on May 3 and 4 at the Pasino de La Grande-Motte.
