Kenji Sakaki returns to Mangetsu with Shin Tokyo, November 16, 2024

Since Enigma, his very first series, Kenji Sakaki had no longer been published in our regions. This will be rectified with the upcoming arrival of Shin Tokyo to the editions Mangetsu in 2025.

Being published since 2022 on the house’s famous Shônen Jump+ Shueishathe manga currently has 10 volumes in Japan. In this horror series reminiscent of death games, we follow Yomi and Yami, two high school twins who witness the suicide of their teacher, harassed, partly by his students. The situation causes an inversion of the world, projecting the students into Shin Tokyo, a purgatory from which they will have to escape.

The publisher promises a dark story playing on horror in an adventure tinged with challenge, all punctuated by an almost video game side marked by the appearance of “bosses”, represented on the different covers of the volumes. Using the codes of the death game, the mangaka addresses various subjects such as the depth of human nature, all told with finesse via eye-catching designs and a harsh tone symbolized by particularly violent scenes. The launch is scheduled for third quarter of 2025. Below, at the end of the news, you can find the video presentation of this new feature by Sullivan Rouaud, editorial director of Mangetsu.

Kenji Sakaki made her debut as a mangaka during the second half of the 2000s. She was first Akira Amano’s assistant on Reborn! before striking out on its own with Enigma, a fantastic and suspenseful story already playing with the codes of the death game, published in Shônen Jump between 2010 and 2012 for a total of 7 volumes. The series unfortunately came to a hasty end due to its lack of success. It was offered to us by Kazé Manga in 2012 but is now no longer sold.

Shin Tokyo therefore marks the artist’s great return to us. In Japan, after Enigma and up to the present series, Kenji Sakaki had the opportunity to draw another manga in Jump, Love Desterconcluded in 12 volumes and unpublished by us.
