From the Côte d’Azur to Hollywood sets, there is only one step… Actress Line Ancel, who studied at the Antibes conservatory, has taken this step well.
The young woman is starring in an American blockbuster, Gladiator II directed by Ridley Scott, released on screens this Wednesday, November 13.
For Line Ancel, the American dream began with a casting in Paris, many months ago, after applying for a classified ad. She is asked to introduce herself in English and play the role of a libertine. She tells the microphone of France 3 Côte d’Azur: ” I asked for music and improvised. I imagined I was at a big party with lots of people and I was running around laughing.”
His performance seduces, a few months later, she learned that she had been selected. Direction Malta for the filming of this blockbuster. Only there, she realizes what is happening to her, “when I arrived at the set with the decor of the Colosseum, the Palace, I took my breath away“.
She plays the role of a concubine of Emperor Geta, played by British actor Joseph Quinn.
The first day before Gladiator I didn’t sleep. I remember feeling like I wanted to cry with joy and at the same time feeling pressure.
She has shared the stage with big names like Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen and others. She remembers the caravan she occupied during her participation in the filming: “we had our makeup and hair done there, it was a big caravan“. She learned on the big day who her partner was going to be: “I love Joseph Quinn, I’m fyear of this actor. It was an honor to play with him“, she says.
Of the scenes she shot, Ridley Scott will only keep four minutes: “ There’s not everything I did during filming, but I’m clearly seen and recognized, and it’s something to be credited in the credits.”.
Theater or cinema, the same requirement
Today, she is convinced that the American dream will continue, even if she also wants to continue acting. She also plays The little thing, by Alphonse Daudet at the Anthéa theater in Antibes until November 16.
In front of schools, she shares the stage with the troupe from Saint-Paul de Vence les Collectionneurs.
For her, technique and acting in cinema and theater are very different, but it keeps “the same seriousness, the same demandingness, the same pressure and the same nervousness before going on stage or before playing.“
