Rap, big money and fighting: a year in prison was required Thursday, November 14 for violence against rapper Koba LaD, tried at the Melun court (Seine-et-Marne) for the kidnapping in 2022 of his manager who the musician accuses of fraud.

In a tense and packed room, where relatives and fans of the rapper rubbed shoulders with a heavy police deployment, the 24-year-old artist with fine dreadlocks and his three new associates appeared until the middle of the night for having assaulted his mentor history, in order to force him to repay money and break their contractual ties.

Very comfortable at the microphone – from the detainees’ box -, smirk at the corner of his lips, Koba LaD admits before the judges a fight in the street between them on April 18, 2022 but denies any kidnapping of Marvin I. known as “Deuspi” . “We rolled on the ground and fought,” he evades.

Restrained blows, not sequestration

Conceding “doubts” in this “somewhat empty” file and lacking investigations, the prosecutor is demanding two years in prison against him, one of which is suspended for the beatings alone, and not the kidnapping.

When he regained consciousness, he found himself with a group of “six-seven” people in front of the home of his partner Sarah B. in Vert-Saint-Denis, a town in the conurbation of Melun (Seine-et-Marne). Inside, his partner and his little brother are sequestered.

For several hours, violence rained down on “Deuspi”. “He began to convulse, to tremble. He was bleeding, his head was beginning to double, even triple in size,” describes his companion Sarah B. in a quavering voice, questioned for two hours on the stand by the defense lawyers.

“They said, ‘He has to sign, he has to sign.’ They wanted Mr. I. to sign a breach of contract,” relates the young woman, on the verge of tears.

“Totally false” facts

After several hours, the attackers left, looting and vandalizing the apartment. Since becoming a civil party in this case, Sarah B. says she has been regularly threatened, going so far as to find a cat with its throat slit in her parking space, and having had to move twice. As soon as his testimony was completed, the police escorted him from the court through a back door.

Gold-rimmed glasses and smoked lenses on their noses, their ears pierced with a golden ring, Koba LaD’s co-defendants denounce “totally false” facts. The prosecution requests their release.

Koba LaD is currently in pre-trial detention since September for manslaughter in September in Val-de-Marne in a road accident.
