In Orne, a former pastry chef takes up painting: his works exhibited

Of November 6, 2024 to January 12, 2025the unique works of the painter Joël Lorand are revealed. This former pastry chef swapped the whisk for pencils and brushes in the mid-90s, at which time he moved to Alençon (Orne).

Two different series

Two different series, but just as originalare exhibited both in the media libraries of Athis-Val-de-Rouvre (Athis-de-l’Orne and Ségrie-), as well as in the gallery of the René Cassin college in Athis.

His most recent works come from the UFO series (unidentified visual object) while those of the series Freaks (monsters in English) are older.

Three exhibition venues

The UFO series, very colorful and created from several mediumscan be discovered at the Athis media library, while the black and white paintings, made with ink from the Freaks series, are exhibited at the college.

The Ségrie media library hosts, for its part, a mixture of these two collections.

Sessions with schools

“This artist in residence will work two weeks in a row, on November 25, 26, 27, as well as December 2 and 3, 2024, with students of four elementary classes : two from the Ségrie-Fontaine school and two from Petit Nicolas d’Athis, but also from three classes from the René Cassin college on November 27, 2024,” explains Mathilde Fourez-Guyomarc’h, head of the media libraries.

These interventions will take place in partnership with National Education and the FDAC (Departmental Contemporary Art Fund).

Exhibition until January 12

The opening of the exhibitionopen to all, will take place on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at the Athis-de-l’Orne media library, in the presence of Joël Lorand, but also that of Valérie Allain, departmental advisor.

Free entry, the exhibition has different opening days and times depending on the site.
