story of a family caught up in the war in early 1945

The Dambach-la-Ville animation committee will present this Friday, November 8 at 8 p.m., at the cultural center, Butter toast film shot in 2023 by Serge Schleiffer and his Amifilm team.

It is an adaptation of the eponymous book published in 2006, by Marguerite Heyoppe-Kraemer, which traces the life of the author and her family during Operation Nordwind, in the north of Alsace.

This last German offensive on , in 1945, failed, at the cost of heavy losses among American and French soldiers, who prevented from falling once again into enemy hands.

Serge Schleiffer, self-taught filmmaker, and Amifilm, which he created in 2004, are not unknown in Dambach-la-Ville. They had invested the city in 2011 to film Room Twelve a historical fiction based on real events, in homage to women in the internal resistance.

The municipal library had been transformed into the headquarters of the Kommandatur where swastika flags flew. There were also scenes of jubilation, shot with a good hundred extras at the bottom of the market square during the arrival of the American liberators.

Debate with the director and his team

This Friday’s screening will be followed by a debate with the director and his team, made up of volunteers. FREE ENTRANCE.

The film will also be shown during the day to middle school students.

This program is part of the celebrations of the 80e anniversary of the liberation of Dambach-la-Ville.
