On Wednesday, host and columnist Richard Martineau went under the knife to have his prostate removed, a “successful operation”.

“It’s done! Everything is fine! Thanks, Dr Widmer!” published the QUB radio host on his Facebook page a few hours after the operation.

The publication is accompanied by a photo of Richard Martineau, smiling, in his hospital bed.

His wife, Sophie Durocher, confirmed, in an interview with QUB radio at 99.5 FM Montreal on Wednesday afternoon, that “he is doing really well”.

“He came out of surgery around 11 a.m. this morning and the surgeon called me and said, ‘Look, it’s a total success all around. The whole prostate, all the cancer, everything was removed,” summarizes the host at the microphone of Guy Nantel, who replaces Richard Martineau during his convalescence.

The removed prostate will now be sent to pathology for analysis.

For the moment, Richard Martineau is recovering from his operation.

“He spends a lot of time sleeping, but he’s very, very happy. It really went exceptionally well,” reports Sophie Durocher.

The latter would also like to thank the staff of the CHUM, where Richard Martineau’s operation took place.

“Everyone here is smiling, caring and professional. It’s really a health system, when you get into it, that works very well and Richard is doing very well.”

Richard Martineau announced last Thursday that he had stage 1 prostate cancer.

Having the choice between radiotherapy treatments or prostate removal, the host preferred the second option.

Comedian Guy Nantel is temporarily replacing Richard Martineau as host of his homecoming show, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., on QUB radio at 99.5 FM Montréal.
