Vinterberg made himself known on the international scene with The party in 1998, a film which won him the jury prize at the Film Festival at only 28 years old. Since then, he has been recognized as one of the most influential European filmmakers, thanks to a body of work marked by the exploration of the darker aspects of the human condition. In 2020, he won the Academy Award for Best International Film for Drunkthus confirming its important role in the global cinematic landscape.

Commenting on his appointment as president of the jury, Thomas Vinterberg said: “Presidenting the jury of the Marrakech International Film Festival is an immense privilege and an honor. In a constantly changing, increasingly divided world, festivals such as that of Marrakech open a valuable window on a wide variety of cultures. Films manage to describe the inexplicable, to make us understand the unacceptable. And right now, there are so many things we need to understand. »
