Since September 4, and until Thursday October 31, Saint-André Abbey is hosting an exceptional exhibition entitled “Au fil du lin et du hemp”. This exhibition highlights the delicate and poetic work of artist Joanna Staniszkis, whose work explores the deep connections between nature, matter and Art.
A dialogue between plants and textiles
Linen and hemp, rich in history and symbolism, are at the heart of his creative process. The exhibition at the abbey invites visitors to discover how these humble and ancestral materials can become supports for artistic expression of great sensitivity and modernity at the same time. Textile installations, often large-scale, transform the spaces of the Abbey. Linen, with its finesse and lightness, contrasts with the robustness of hemp, creating a play of textures and transparencies that evokes both the fragility and the strength of nature.
A sensory experience
The exhibition offers an immersive journey where each work tells a story, that of the transformation of raw material into an object of art and even clothing. Staniszkis uses traditional techniques such as weaving, spinning, and natural dyeing, while reinventing them to express contemporary themes related to ecology, sustainability, and the interconnection between man and nature. Visitors are invited to touch certain pieces (only), feel the fibers and contemplate the subtle nuances of natural dyes.
A place, a history and art
Saint-André Abbey, with its gardens and ancient buildings, offers a perfect setting for the creations of Joanna Staniszkis. The exhibition is part of the tradition of this place which has always been a meeting point between art and the spiritual. It is not only a celebration of textile art, but also a reflection on the relationship between man and nature. Through his work, Staniszkis recalls the importance of preserving natural and cultural heritage, while exploring new creative avenues.
