The Last of Us Season 2: These ideas are already great, discover the secrets of the trailer for the HBO series!

You’ve probably seen it: HBO gave us a first glimpse of season 2 of the series The Last of Us. As you can imagine, there are quite a few things to say. We tell you about it in this article.

On the occasion of The Last of Us Day – celebrated every September 26 -, Naughty Dog and HBO have unveiled the first trailer for The Last of Us season 2! As a reminder, showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are now interested in what Part 2 is about. Obviously, Ellie’s vengeful epic should span several seasons (especially since season 2 will only be 7 episodes). In any case, when the series reveals its sequel next year, we’ll start at the beginning. A start that this trailer presents to us, we invite you to return to its secrets.

Joel at the psychiatrist?

The trailer opens with a new character, played by Catherine O’Hara, who speaks to Joel (Pedro Pascal) in an intimate – almost secret – conversation… The hero seems on the verge of revealing the heavy secret that has been gnawing at him for years (Last of Us 1 and 2 are separated by 4 years) and which concludes the first season. A scene that logically recalls the conversation shared by Joel and Tommy – his brother -, on this same burden, at the very beginning of The Last of Us Part 2. The beginning of this trailer suggests that Joel first confides in O’Hara’s characteror at least, that it is addressed to someone other than Tommy.

But one detail is rather intriguing: before setting foot in the dish, Catherine O’Hara starts a timer as if to “time” the conversation. This is therefore not “natural”, and for our part, it makes us think of a session with the psychologist. It would be logical that a city as developed as Jackson (which we can see in the trailer) would have this type of service available. This would also be in line with Mazin and Druckmann’s approach: developing the story of The Last of Us using new scenes. Here, offering additional insight into Joel’s psychological distress – something that’s quite a bit off in The Last of Us Part 2.

A death that would happen later?

In fact, this is the only major “secret” that emerges from this trailer. However, we can note the choice of Future Days by Pearl Jam as a soundtrack, the same song that Joel plays to Ellie at the start of Last of Us Part 2 to teach her guitar (as part of a flashback). The scene in question also appears in the trailer.

But, if we take this trailer as a note of intent for the entire season, it would seem that this second part leaves a lot of room for everything that precedes the famous tragic moment which will launch Ellie’s revenge. It is certain, in season 2, Bella Ramsey’s character will reach the city of Boston – as evidenced by the tense ride at 1:23 and the presence of the Seraphites. However, still in the approach of Mazin and Druckmann mentioned above, there is a chance that this will not happen before the second half of the season.

Abby (Kaitlyn Dever)

After all, in Last of Us Part 2, the death of (spoiler) happens after 1h30-2h of play, and we can imagine a longer process before reaching this point… This would make the moment even more memorable. For example, why not dedicate a full-fledged episode to Abby before this fateful moment? In the trailer, we can see her praying at a grave, probably that of her father – killed by you know who. In any case, we hope that this season 2 will surprise us with these kinds of details, as season 1 did! As a reminder, the sequel to Last of Us is expected in 2025 (without further details). In , it will be on Max, HBO’s streaming platform.
