Wildlife photographer of the year 2024: the first photos revealed

It’s the sixtieth edition but we still never tire of seeing these nature paintings. The most prestigious animal photography competition in the world has just unveiled the first photos that will be exhibited at the Natural History Museum in London, next October. Among these photographs, we can admire a “dancing” stoat, a gentle hunter in the moonlight, a David Bowie spider or even an insect battle.

The number of entries exploded again for this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year. A total of 59,228 entries were received from artists of all ages and abilities, from 117 countries. “In this selection, you can see the diversity of species, animal behaviors and conservation issues. These images represent the evolution of the competition over the years, from pure natural history to photography that fully embraces the representation of the natural world,” said judging chair Kathy Moran.

Laurent Ballesta in triumph

Will a Frenchman win the most prestigious title of “Photographer of the Year”, like last year? The Natural History Museum in London had rewarded Laurent Ballesta for his exceptional work on horseshoe crabs in the protected waters of Pangatalan Island in the Philippines. We will have to wait until October 8 to find out the winners of this future anniversary edition. We will not fail to share them with you.
