They had pushed this door open to get help to support their spouse suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Here they are today on the stage of a play, for a new rehearsal, before the planned (and already sold out!) performance at the Salle Claude-Chabrol, in Angers, on February 15, 2025.
“At 65, I didn’t think I would start acting”laughs Évelyne, the wife of Charles, diagnosed at 62 years old, when he had barely retired, he the former farmer, manager of a farm of 40 dairy cows and very invested in the agricultural authorities. Putting on a play that brings together sick people and their caregivers is a first in France.
For a year and a half, the 14 amateur actors have been meeting at least once a month to prepare this project.
“And we’ll see you outside to rehearse”breathes Josiane, a volunteer from the France Alzheimer association, and former caregiver to her mother, at a time when patients
“were taken for crazy”.
