Saint-Germain-des-Fossés, in Allier, welcomed the first performance of a particular opera on Wednesday January 22. “The blood of the glacier” opens with the story of a disappeared father on a glacier whose cast iron releases red algae. A room specially created for the opera truck. Mathieu Dubroca, a lyric baritone singer, indicates: “It is a first and at the same time, once we are in the truck, it feels like being in a theater, a small theater but a theater”. Charlotte Gozzi, soprano lyric singer, adds: “We are not necessarily used to being in gauges where we are very close to the public. As we have the voice that is projects, these are often large rooms. I think we have already done it everyone, but it is not usual”.

The show commissioned by the Lyon Opera, eager to go to the public, is specially created for the truck-opera. Once parked, the room is deployed, with a reception marquee with 90 seats in Gradin and a scene of 8 m by 6. Fabrice Paris, technical director of the Lyon Opera, underlines: “It is a scenographic and artistic bet. You have to recreate universes in this space, which is much smaller. But it is also a real advantage for spectators because they will have a real proximity to the singers. The voice is something physical so the spectators will be affected. It is a show that was specifically developed to go to the itinerant truck-opera. From the design of the scenography, we took into account a certain number of data. Usually, the opera requires a lot of volume of decorations and there it is a real constraint”.
The truck and the troop move each week from city to city and department in the department, with three musicians, two singers and fifteen people around them. Delphine Marty, project manager for the itinerant opera, specifies: “It’s really an adventure. We arrive on Monday, we go up on Monday and Tuesday. We play from Tuesday to Friday. On Saturdays, it is restarting and it rests a little, to leave on Monday. We do this over 9 weeks”.
Disoriented by uncontrollable events, a brother and a sister find themselves in a quest for reconciliation, as humans should do with the planet. Next week, the truck-opera will be in Moulins, in the courtyard of the national costume and scene center.
