#Fespaco2025: five Cameroonian productions in the running – CRTV

A short film, two series and two Cameroonian documentaries were selected in the official selection of the Ouagadougou Pan-African Cinema and Television Festival which opens on February 22, 2025 in Burkina-Faso

Director Eugénie Metala will present for the first time in an international festival, her short documentary “Sita Bella the First”. It will be at the 29th edition of the Pan-African Cinema and Television Festival of Ouagadougou (Fespaco), which will be held from February 22 to March 1, 2025. This 31-minute film pays tribute to Thérèse Sita-Bella, pioneer of cinema and journalism in Cameroon, the first sub-Saharan African woman to have exercised these professions, in addition to being an airplane pilot.

In addition to Eugénie Metala, other Cameroonian directors have been selected for this 2025 edition. These include Narcisse Wandji with his series “Monkam”, Rosine Mbakam and her long documentary “Mambar Pierrette”. There is also the series “Scars” by Anurin Mwumembom and the feature film “Half Heaven” by Enah Johnscott in the panorama category.

Meeting of cultures

Note that the 2025 edition of Fespaca will have Chad as special guest of honor. It will bring together 48 countries, proof, according to the president of the organizing committee, Fidèle Aymar Tamini, of the “remarkable vitality of African and diaspora film productions, despite the financial difficulties facing the sector”.

According to the organizing committee, among the selected films, some will be screened as world premieres. “The particularity of this edition is the quantity and quality of the films. For the first time in the history of Fespaco, we demanded that registrations be paid. Despite this, many directors and producers sent a lot of films. There is enthusiasm. Considering the number of accredited people, we know that this edition will be grandiose. Every director or producer dreams of making their world premiere at Fespaco. It’s a way of making a pilgrimage to the temple of the greats of African cinema. Beyond the price, being selected for Fespaco already represents a big step in one’s career. This allows you to participate in other festivals,” suggested the general delegate of Fespaco, Moussa Alex Sawadogo.

According to him, the major innovation of this edition is the establishment of a new section called “Critics Week”, where ten films were recorded.
