The three childhood friends traveled, for a year, to the biggest stages in France, to warm up the Orelsan audience. A real leap into the void for Mao, JD and Flo, in front of thousands of spectators.

In this little game, it’s either make or break, as the pace is sustained, with a certain pressure, that of making oneself known, and above all of not disappointing.

In short, accelerated training, in an environment that makes you dream so much but where places are expensive.

The Orelsan team is super professional, it’s great. Everyone has their well-defined role and at the same time, they have kept the Norman simplicity. They welcomed us like big brothers. We learned the rigor to do three, four, sometimes five dates per week. We benefited a lot from their experience to avoid beginner mistakes.

“It’s simple, we didn’t partyjokes Flo, at least not the night before the concert. It was concentrated from A to Z. And it allowed us to have springboards behind, to sign with a record company and to release our first album.

“Story” can be listened to as a sonic biography, in which Mao, JD and Flo tell their stories. Before releasing their album, the trio worked a lot, wrote and started again.

Their first song “Boumara” (marabout in verlan) was, for example, suggested by JD, at a time when the group was looking to renew itself.

“Some people think that success in music is linked to stories of witchcraft, to marabouts. Not at all. The public does not imagine all the work that goes into it, the hours in the studio, the nights writing. During the tour, we met people, very beautiful people, and they’re not there by chance, but no, they’ve been working for 10 years and we wanted to write. on that, hence Boumara.”

Work is essential, to catch Ablaye’s eye, the “big boss”. LOrelsan’s friend and producer knew Mao, teenager, already determined to make music. He says:

“We often met in town, and one day, Mao came to see me, saying, ‘Ablaye, you will produce me one day. I replied “Yes, if you work yeah” and years later we met again. Mao had grown up, he was ready. And I kept my promise, that’s it.

Humanly, we like them. They’re cool. They are strong and motivated. Sometimes I told them to start songs again. Whether it was me, Orel, Skread, they always listened to us, even though it’s not easy for an artist to start from scratch and return to the studio. We believe in their project.

At Cargö too, we measure the progress we have made. My friend Brusco, the tireless whistleblower of the Caen rap scene, has been supporting all young emerging artists for fifteen years.

He therefore saw Mao, JD and Flo grow up in the studio, tour on stage and evolve. Today, for the release of the album, he has a nice gift for them: a T-shirt with the image of Cargö, signed by the Orelsan brand. A new collection and quite a symbol. Since he also did his first concerts in this hall, which has become legendary.

The adventure of “Story” has only just begun. JD, Mao and Flo are impatient at the idea of getting back on stage to share their “souvenirs”“thoughts”, “sentinels”, “ephemeral”, and all the stories from this album that still linger in your head the next day. That’s a good sign.

Next date: Portobello, in Caen, January 30, at 8 p.m.

“Story”, available on all platforms.
