This is one of the events of the year in Nîmes (). And the more time passes, the more notoriety he gains. Always more popular, Roman Days will be held from April 25 to 27 with a multitude of meetings. A exceptional event since it has established itself over the years as being the largest historical reenactment on Antiquity in Europe.

The people of Nîmes have really taken ownership of this major event. It cultivates our ancient roots and presents our magnificent Roman monuments in a historical manner.

In 2025, Les Journees Romaines will still attract visitors from all over and even from abroad. “The increased presence of visitors, whether French or foreign, in Nîmes, is a reflection of a strong political will and a permanent commitment to strengthen and revitalize the attractiveness of our city”, specifies for its part Frédéric PastorDeputy Delegate for Festivities, Bullfighting, Returnees and Local Traditions.

An unmissable event and plenty of entertainment

At the end of April, thousands of visitors will be able to enjoy the village gallo-romain and its numerous activities (demonstration workshops, decoration, falconry demonstration, wooden games, Roman Banquet, etc.), on the Charles-de-Gaulle esplanade.

Other events will take place in the city center, on the I like Gabriel Periwith the shows of gladiators and of danse antique.

For visitors to Fountain Gardensother activities will be on the program (literary reading, shows, antique fashion show, eloquence show, workshops for young audiences and families, etc.).

Many meetings are also planned at the Musée de la Romanité (conferences, shows, workshops, demonstrations, etc.).

The Antique Market, at the heart of the Roman Days

Always very popular with the public, the Antique Market will also be back on the Charles-de-Gaulle esplanade.

“This market is the unmissable trade meeting of the time. It attracts thousands of visitors every year, says Valentine Wolber, deputy representative for shops. Note that, this year again, city center merchants will take an active part in the festival by welcoming the public in period costume but also by participating in activities linked to Edeis. »

Visitors will be able to stroll through an ancient market made up of around forty traders offering for sale the most widespread products during the Roman era and management of extensions to the terraces of bars and restaurants with application of the Comptoir Charter specially created for the event.

Romulus, the birth of Rome

The other big highlight of this 2025 edition will undoubtedly be the great historic spectacle carried by Edeis, in the Arena of Nîmes. This new event will focus on Romulus and the birth of Rome.

“Over the years, our objective is to continue to develop and intensify this dynamic so that each inhabitant of Nîmes becomes, in the future, a living and committed ambassador of this event,” explains Jean-Luc SchnoebelenPresident of Edeis. This year the new show will offer a highlight of history for everyone. »

More than 500 reenactors on the track, riders, stuntmen, magnificent settings, captivating music… Let yourself go back in time for 1h30 of History in the Nîmes arenas.

The show will begin with the founding myth of Rome: the story of Remus and Romulus. “We will discover the birth of Rome with its first battles led by Romulus, the establishment of its institutions and the successive reigns which allowed the growth of Rome. The story will end with the fall of Tarquin the Superb. »
