XALIMANEWS-The President of the National Assembly, Mr. El Malick Ndiaye, received the Ambassador of the European Union to Senegal, Mr. Jean-Marc Pisani, accompanied by a delegation. The two authorities expressed their desire to strengthen their relations, particularly in the challenges related to visas and immigration.
Speaking, Mr. Pisani congratulated President Ndiaye on his election and praised the democratic resilience of Senegal despite the tensions of 2024.
He presented the final report of the EU Electoral Observation Mission and recalled the priority areas of cooperation, in particular education, health and sustainable development.
For his part, the President of the National Assembly thanked the EU for its support for the democratic process and presented his projects to modernize the National Assembly, including legislative reforms, digitalization and the creation of a parliamentary channel .
He also expressed concerns about delays and frequent refusals of visas by European consulates, which hinder academic, professional and cultural exchanges.
Furthermore, he called for a more inclusive and pragmatic approach, favoring legal and orderly migration, while firmly rejecting irregular immigration.
