John Cena looks back on his defeats that marked him

The career of a very high level wrestler is filled with successes but also failures which build his story: this is the case of John Cena. In an interview with American media Collider, the 16-time world champion looks back on the 3 defeats that had the biggest impact on his career.

He declares:

“The ones that come to mind are definitely, first of all, the one against The Rock in Miami (at WrestleMania 28). I don’t know if people would have been shocked if I had won. If Rock had lost, there wouldn’t have been a compelling story. Kevin Owens’ debut (at Elimination Chamber 2015) was another great match that I thought was really fun. And then Rob Van Dam at the Hammerstein Ballroom (at ECW One Night Stand in 2006). This defeat was quite special. At any time you can surprise people.”

We are currently talking about John Cena’s long streak without a victory in a solo match. He hasn’t won since 2457 days precisely and his last success dates back to the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018. To tell stories, Cena does not hesitate to lose and showcase other talents. But there was a time when “The Champ” was just winning, which led to him being heavily booed for part of his career.

He specifies:

-

“One of the biggest problems in the middle of my career is winning. But the way you make those losses impactful is when sometimes you have to win, and sometimes you have to win a lot.”

Will John Cena break this losing streak in 2025?
