“I cried three times during the film. I’m not used to seeing it in these conditions so it touched me a little”confides at the end of the screening Mourad Winter, the director of the film “L’amour, c’est surcoté”, presented in preview as part of the Alpe d’Huez festival, Tuesday January 14.

So he had to wipe away his tears and regain his composure in front of the audience’s ovation. His first comedy, which is also his first film, was broadcast to a won over audience. The feature film is a punchy romantic comedy with endearing characters and scathing jokes:

“It’s a film that really touches me, which comes from a book that I wrote. When you write a book, you’re still going to search in your guts, you’re going to look for something quite hard and tender at the same time. And there, the fact of seeing it and having a standing ovation, it’s nice, I understand why I make cinema.” confides the young director.

In this film, Mourad Winter tells the story of Anis, a suburbanite who is mourning his best friend, who left a few years earlier. The young man said to himself “unfit” to fall in love, but his meeting with Madeleine will change everything.

Anis and Madeleine are played by two actors who are also comedians in life: Hakim Jemili and Laura Felpin. If the latter is known for her stand-ups and her humorous pastilles on social networks, this time she plays a more moving role.

“It’s not just a love story between two people, it’s ultimately a global love story. There is a group of friends and in this group, it’s love that allows you to let go “We can be extremely irreverent and immoral because we know that we are in a ‘safe place’ and that in fact we don’t really mean what is being said.” says artist Laura Felpin.

Through this film, the director aims to denounce with humor all forms of intolerance such as racism, homophobia and even transphobia: “On a daily basis with my friends, we constantly make questionable jokes. That was the challenge, when I wrote the script, I asked myself is it going to pass or not with so many divisive subjects? And for finish, they trust me.”

Presented in competition at the 28th Alpe d’Huez international comedy film festival, with 9 other films, “L’Amour, c’est surcoté” is scheduled to hit theaters on April 23.
