With his second solo album Lobster Coda, Icelandic Kaktus Einarsson amazes with his sonic reveries, between atmospheric walks and contemplative evaporation.
For the 39e edition, the emblematic Eurosonic festival based in Groningen in the Netherlands, programs more than 300 young groups from the four corners of Europe until January 19, 2025. Added to this are three thousand label professionals, programmers and managers of international festivals, in search of the rare pearl on the 30 stages scattered throughout this student city. It is quite simply one of the biggest discovery events in the world and above all a springboard for young emerging artists.
Among them, an Icelandic prodigy: Kaktus Einarsson. It’s a singer and songwriter, 36 years old. Her new album, danceable and hypnotic as well as electronic, daring in its fusions between pop and contemporary classical music, has been acclaimed by music critics.
A precocious child, he was immersed in music from a young age. In 1999, he was only 10 years old when he joined the experimental rock group Ghostigital. A group created by her father who was the co-founder, in 1986, of The Sugarcubes, the first globally successful project of the famous singer, Bjork.
Very quickly, Kaktus Einarsson became one of the spearheads of European pop rock. First, with his darkwave band Fufanu, and now solo because his music is open to all genres and artists of all generations. Then, it must be said that he is one of the lucky musicians who immediately finds the sound and approach they are looking for. And above all, his colleagues trust him and support him unwaveringly. In this case, British superstar Damon Albarn duets with him on the title « Gumbri ».
-This album is an illustration of the philosophy of Kaktus Einarsson. Growing up in the capital Reykjavik, between large volcanic spaces and frozen lakes, his contemplative and introspective songs speak of unfiltered emotions. It’s clean and uncluttered. They also evoke the musicality of the wind and the ocean to connect with nature.
At the head of innovative and varied projects, he is undoubtedly currently the artist of the new generation Iceland’s most creative. An eclecticism that pays off for someone who has already opened for concerts by Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blur. The whole disk Lobster Coda, listens like a wonderful tale in the land of the Northern Lights.
Kaktus Einarsson sera a concert on February 15, 2025 at Supersonic Records, in Paris.
